Skin and laser assessment · product claims and what can be verified about them · injectable complications

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital and head of its skin and laser aesthetic service — and she is the lead physician of this site. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, she has worked on the clinical front line in skin laser and injectable aesthetics for more than 20 years, serving over ten thousand patients.

On this review her part is the separation of what a laboratory can establish from what a patient is being told. She starts from the question of identity rather than from the claim: what the material is, how anyone measured it, and which batch it came from, because a product that cannot answer those three questions cannot be assessed afterwards if something goes wrong. She treats the underlying biology as a legitimate research subject and the marketed product as a separate question, and she does not resolve the difference by tone in either direction. Where a person asks for something that no evidence supports, she says so and names what does have a record, including the option of waiting. Where a patient arrives after an injection given elsewhere, the first step is to establish what was actually injected, because that record is what any later assessment depends on.

Clinical focus

  • Assessment of the concern itself, before any product is discussed
  • What can and cannot be verified about a product from the documentation a clinic holds
  • Skin and laser procedures whose position is documented, and their real downtime
  • Recognition and management of a reaction after an injectable given elsewhere
  • Documenting what was injected, when and by whom, for whoever assesses it later

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Laser Medicine Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Facial Rejuvenation Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Chongqing Plastic Surgery Quality Control Center
  • Published 5 papers, holds 5 national patents, and introduced 2 new clinical techniques

A name is not a measurement, and a mechanism is not a result

That a vesicle carries material between cells in a culture dish is a finding. That a preparation sold under that name contains the structure, at a stated amount, is a separate claim that requires a measurement nobody has published for the product being offered. Holding those two apart is most of what this review does.
